Strange rings

Since this autumn, several cranes with yellow rings with inscriptions and some with so-called flags on the ring have appeared – see photo. These cranes were ringed in Finland – unfortunately not according to the agreement of the European Crane Working Group. Hereinafter cranes in Europe are marked with small, light, colored plastic rings. The order of the six rings results in a unique combination – the clearly visible ID of the crane. The alphanumeric rings with flags can also be reported on our online database for ringed cranes www.icora.de since a few days. Crane Conservation Germany will try to find and contact the people who ringed these cranes soon.
