Migrating cranes over Germany

© ornitho.de

The cranes used the favorable migration conditions of the last days to move further North. The reports on the platform ornitho.de from yesterday show that there were sightings of cranes over the whole migration route within Germany. Many local breeding couples from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania were also already seen in their territory. The Nordic crane groups stay in bigger gatherings at the short and long-term resting areas of the respective region and are much more striking than the local breeding couples.

This is mainly due to the fact that the crane groups fly from the sleeping grounds to the feeding grounds after sunrise and respectively back before sunset and during this short flight they make their typical calls. The majority of passage migrants is expected to arrive at the Baltic coast in the second half of March. According to forecasts, the migration conditions will also deteriorate in the upcoming week.
