"Blacky" our globetrotter crane

© J. Pröjts

"Blacky" is a male crane, which was tagged in 2013 with a GPS-transmitter. Out of all our GPS-tagged cranes, he is behaving most unusual. Instead of occupying a territory within the area, where he has hatched, every spring since 2017 he crosses the Baltic Sea and spends the summer in Southern Sweden.

So far he seems to be without a partner, so the reason for leaving his home area remains unclear.

J. Pröjts took a photo of "Blacky" in 2018 near the Malmö Airport. Who every wants to meet this unusuall crane can visit the observation station "KRANORAMA" near Günz. There "Blacky" rests every spring and autumn.
